At Glific, we always aim to make improvements based on feedback from our NGO partners. When we first launched Auto-Translate v1, it quickly became a helpful tool for many organizations. It allowed users to translate send message nodes in the flow editor, saving them a lot of time and effort from having to add translations manually. Powered by OpenAI (GPT-3.5) and Google Translate, this feature made it easier to reach more people in their native languages.
In Glific, interactive messages allow NGOs to create engaging and dynamic conversations with their beneficiaries, offering more than just basic text-based notifications. These messages include interactive elements like buttons, quick replies, and list menus, which enhance the user experience through guided interactions and help NGOs collect cleaner data. However, translating these interactive messages has been a major challenge. With over 18,500 interactive messages across organizations—an average of 150 per NGO—manually translating them was time-consuming and complex due to the multiple components within each message.
Introducing Auto-Translate v2: A Simpler and Quicker Way to Translate Interactive Messages
The new Auto Translate v2 feature addresses the above issue by automating the translation of interactive messages, making the process more efficient and enabling NGOs to better serve diverse communities without the burden of manual translation. We’ve added a new option on the Add/Edit Interactive Messages page, making the translation process smoother and more user-friendly for NGOs. Here’s what’s new:
- Auto-Translate: With just one click, you can now translate all parts of an interactive message automatically, cutting down on manual translation work.
- Export with Translations: After translating the message, you can export it as a CSV file. This lets you easily make corrections to ensure everything is accurate while still saving time.
- Import Translations: Once you’ve made the edits, you can import the CSV file back into Glific, and the updated translations will be applied to the interactive message automatically.
Why This Update is Important
We’ve moved the translation feature for interactive messages outside the flow editor, making it easier to handle translations directly in the Interactive Messages tab, where you’re already working on these messages. This change reduces the hassle of long CSV imports.
This update makes it easier for organizations to communicate effectively while allowing them to fine-tune translations as needed. Auto-Translate v2 is another step toward making communication more accessible and inclusive for NGOs working with different language groups.
