Hi, I am Akansha, an undergraduate student pursuing a bachelor’s in Computer Science from MITS Gwalior. I recently started my internship at Glific and here I will share about my first two-weeks experience of the internship.

My Journey at Glific, I would say, started with me attending different events organised by local grassroots organizations in Gwalior District. With time, I realised there’s a huge gap between people working at the grassroots and the technological sector. That’s when I started looking for projects that addressed those gaps, that’s how I came across Project Tech4dev.

I decided to email them and quickly got a reply from Shamoon to schedule an interview, the interview went great, I got to know about Glific and tech4dev, which intrigued me and I decided to dive deeper. Soon after that I had another call with Kurund where we spent an hour talking about different things. Then after a few days, I heard back from them regarding the internship at Glific!

My new year began with my internship at Glific, In my first few days, I met some incredible people and I got to know about their work and projects. The technology stack I work on consists of react and typescript being the framework for development and GraphQL for APIs. Initially, the work was a little intimidating because this was the first time I was working on such a huge project and with so many people, but with time and the help of my mentors it became a smooth process and I fell in love with the work. I would sit for hours going through the codebase, and reading the Glific blogs to understand how things work.

The first week was all about getting acquainted with the organisation’s work and its culture. The day would start with standup meetings, where everyone would share the things they were working on and a little gupshup.  Every Monday and Thursday, there is a standup where all the teams (support, product, development, and bizdev) connect and give an overview of things they are working on. Through these meetings, I got to learn a lot about the overall flow, and the connectivity of organization’s processes.

Initially, my work started with small issues such as adding error messages but gradually, I was assigned more significant and engaging tasks to work on. And if I would get stuck I reached out to Shamoon, who helped me understand and debug it. In my first two weeks, I have worked on 5 issues, out of which 3 are closed and merged and 2 are in the review stage.

Overall, I can proudly say my first two weeks were great, and I loved the work and the people. Also, I would like to give a big shoutout to Shamoon for helping and guiding me throughout. With such amazing mentors, I am sure I would grow both professionally and personally. I look forward to learning and growing more here at Glific!
