The following blog is contributed by Kiran Kumar Sen from INREM Foundation
We at INREM Foundation empower the rural communities of India by building Water-Safe Communities. Our vision is to create a future where every rural community in India has access to clean and safe water, ensuring the health, well-being, and sustainable livelihoods of millions.
To support us in this effort we have designed JalXChange: JalXchange (Jal meaning water) is a trustable exchange on water designed to activate and support water quality champions ( we are now close to 60000 & growing). The platform is planned to support them through integrated digital and on-ground engagement. By combining emerging technologies, local knowledge, and continuous problem solving, JalXChange bridges innovations in water safety with rural communities, ensuring the widespread adoption of solutions that are local and relevant.
Imagine having Water Quality Champions anywhere, anytime at the grassroots level, using simple tools like WhatsApp to report water contamination issues in real time. This innovative solution connects communities directly to government & NGO officials, making it easier to solve problems quickly and effectively – helping communities get safe drinking water.
I believe that harnessing digital platforms and innovations is crucial to empowering these champions—whether they are citizens, students, NGOs, or government departments. The platform like JalXChange helps engage and mobilize networks across India, unlocking the potential for positive change. By providing access to real-time water contamination data, we enable every citizen to take proactive steps towards building a water-safe community.
Participating in the recent sprint was a learning experience for me. It gave me a chance to collaborate, share ideas, and gather valuable feedback. These insights helped fine-tune JalXChange into a practical, scalable solution.
- Chat Flow Refinement: Enhanced user flows to avoid them getting stuck within the flow by making interactions smoother and more actionable.
- Making it visible: Insights on how to visualize reports effectively to track user engagement and completion of activities – helping in monitoring our efforts.
- Learning from Peer: Understanding experiences from inspiring organizations like Reap Benefit, The Apprentice Project (TAP), SNEHA, and Piramal helped us see new opportunities and approaches to problem-solving within our current understanding.
We plan to utilize Glific’s capabilities for better message automation, structured engagement, and real-time problem tracking to help intervene at the ground level.
I extend a heartfelt thank you to all the team at Glific, Tech4Dev, Fellow Partners, and collaborators who made this possible. Special shoutout to Gautam from Glific – your support has been instrumental in shaping this prototype.
As we move forward, INREM is committed to building a solid, measurable framework to support scalable water quality monitoring solutions. The sprint reinforced what we’ve always believed: collaboration and innovation can transform ideas into impactful solutions.
